nOpen position: Assistant Grower
The George Jones Farm is a 70 acre farm managed by the New Agrarian Center. The NAC's goal is to develop a dynamic agrarian learning and training center that is integrated with a financially viable farm. Our operation features inter-linked agrarian enterprises that combine ecological restoration with intensive agricultural production in an urban-inlfuenced region of Northeast Ohio.
The George Jones Farm seeks qualified applicants who are interested in developing with the organization for the full-time position of Assistant Grower.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Intensive agricultural position responsible for assisting the Farm Manager in the daily operation of the Market Garden.
- Upkeep and cleanliness of the farm grounds and buildings.
- Supervision of interns and volunteers.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- Deep interest and enthusiasm for organic farming.
- BS or BA degree in related field.
- 2-3 years experience in farming.
- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in supervising employees, volunteers, and students.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Assists the Farm Manager in the following activities:
- market garden design, installation, and maintenance.
- monitoring inventory of tools, equipment, and growing supplies.
- daily field work, including chicken care.
- monitoring maintenance of farm equipment and vehicles.
- product preparation and marketing including wholesale, restaurant, CSA, and market sales.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to operate farm machinery.
- Ability to lift 50-60 lbs.
- Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions.
